Sunset Beach Parking Surveys
A reminder for Sunset Beach residents that your parking survey should be completed and returned no later than Thursday, May 15, 2008. Drop-off boxes for your completed survey are located at: Treasure Island City Hall, the Sunset Beach Pavilion and at the Treasure Island Community Center. Additional surveys are available at the Treasure Island Police Department, 180 108th Avenue.
Elnor Island cleanup gets underway
Volunteers needed Saturday, May 10th to help remove marine debris from the John’s Pass mangrove key. Volunteers should bring their own work gloves, sunscreen and bug repellent and rubber-soled shoes or boots. Meet at 8:30am on Saturday, May 10th at the Gator's Marina docks adjacent to Kingfish Park, just past Gator's Cafe & Saloon on Kingfish Drive.
John's Pass Channel closed during early morning hours
As the bridge deck construction progresses on the new John's Pass Bridge, channel closures are necessary Sunday nights through Thursday nights until July 2008. No boats will be permitted to travel under the bridge from 1am to 1:30am and from 10:30am to 11am. Boats that do not require a bridge opening are permitted to travel under the bridge from 1:30am to 10:30am. Click here for the full news release.
New fees for permits in effect
The City Commission has amended the fee schedule for a variety of permits including building, plumbing and electrical permits and Planning and Zoning Board, variance and special exception fees.
High-risk structures may lose insurance discount
Flood insurance policies for buildings rated as having the lowest floor one foot or more below the base flood elevation will no longer be eligible for the Community Rating System discount. The new FEMA policy takes effect on May 1, 2008. Contact your insurance agent to verify how your property has been rated and how your premiums may be affected. Palm tree disease making a comeback
An old disease involving palm trees is apparently creeping back into Florida. There have been three suspected cases of Lethal Yellowing in Treasure Island this year. The City of Treasure Island Groundskeeping Division of Public Works inoculated about 150 palm trees against possible Lethal Yellowing and its evil cousin Texas Phoenix Palm Deline.
