SANDING OVATIONS WINNERS
Jobi Bouchard of Montreal is this year's 1st place and People's Choice Sanding Ovations winner. Jan Selen took 2nd and the Sculptor's Choice Award, and Dan Belcher picked up 3rd place. CAPRI ISLE BRIDGE IS OPEN
No more "stop and wait" at the Capri Bridge - after 11 months of construction, the new Isle of Capri bridge is fully open to traffic. Construction on the Isle of Palms replacement bridge, part of the same project as the Capri bridge, is also expected to wrap up in the next few weeks.
BAYSHORE DRIVE DRAINAGE PROJECT
Drainage improvement work on Bayshore Drive between 77th and 79th Avenues is expected to begin on Monday, December 9th. This work is expected to run through June 2014.
BEACH RENOURISHMENT IN 2014
The US Army Corps of Engineers received a preliminary nourishment schedule from Weeks Marine for 2014. Sunshine Beach is scheduled for sand May 2nd through May 12th and Sunset Beach is set for sand May 12th through June 4th. Please realize this is preliminary and the timeframes likely will be adjusted as the dates get closer.
FIRE SAFETY BEGINS IN THE KITCHEN
As fall and winter weather approaches, along with the holidays, we're spending more time in our kitchens. According to the latest research, cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Two of every five home fires begin in the kitchen—more than any other place in the home. Fire Prevention Week emphasizes fire safety for every week of every year.
WATER RESTRICTIONS EXPLAINED
For potable water users, if your house number is even, water on Thursdays and Sundays; if it's odd, Wednesday and Saturday. For reclaimed water, the schedule is: even house numbers on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; for odd numbers, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. No watering at all bewteen the hours of 10am and 4pm. No spitting, either.
FLEE THE COUNTRY THRU TI CITY HALL You can get your passport and passport renewals (if passport is expired for 5 or more years) Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm at Treasure Island City Hall, 120 108th Avenue. Appointments are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 727-547-4575 ext. 221 or 223.
