TI WEATHER |  LATEST TI NEWS   |  COMMISSION MEETING MONDAY, 11/3

The cold front in Florida this week, meteorlogically speaking, is an area where cold air pushes into warm air and displaces it. Because cold air is heavier than warm, the cold air generally presses under the warm air, causing an outbreak of fleece jackets, yacht club windbreakers, hats with ear flaps, sweaters with patterns of green and red snowflakes, turtlenecks, and Michelin-Man Gore-Tex jackets. In other areas of the country, say, a certain World Series-winning city whose name we will NOT mention but rhymes with Schmilaschmelphia, a cold front produces a ridiculous 46-hour sixth inning stretch. And snowplows. For months on end, rumbling plows ply the streets of a certain city whose name we will not mention , under heartless, cold, shrieking steel-gray skies. We have no brotherly love for, um ... gray skies.

Holes in Gulf Boulevard not caused by snowplows or Phillies fans
No, the holes and piles of sand are there to build the new crosswalk medians. Treasure Island's busiest crosswalks, at 124th/125th Avenue, Middle Grounds, Sloppy Joe’s and 100th Avenue will get new solar-powered pedestrian activated beacon lights. (Any year-round solar powered pedestrian activated beacon lights in downtown Schmilaschmelphia? No? Ha! Didn't think so.) Five crosswalk upgrades should be finished before Thanksgiving, including West Gulf and Gulf Boulevard in Sunset Beach. There will be some new markings and signs, too, replacing the old "Watch for Suicidal Bovine" signs. (pictured at left)

Important Halloween safety info from TIPD
Before heading out for trick or treat fun, conduct an offender/neighborhood search at www.flsexoffender.net.  This search will make you aware of where registered offenders and predators currently reside on your trick-or-treat route. TIPD encourages you to sign up for the Florida Offender Alert System, a free service that allows you to subscribe for e-mail alerts notifying you each time a sexual offender or predator moves within a certain radius of the address or addresses selected. Signing up is quick and easy! Just visit www.mytreasureisland.org/police/home.htm today and subscribe.

"Hey, I could do that!"
How many times have you said that to yourself while watching a committee meeting on TITV615? OK, probably never, and that could be the problem. Currently, there are many, many, MANY openings on various Treasure Island boards and committees. Click here for the printable application. YOU could be on TV instead of at home!

YES, BY ALL MEANS, GET YOUR HOE READY:
When we all set our clocks back one hour this Saturday, we get to relive 60 whole minutes! And nothing says another hour of early-morning Standard Time "fun" like having a garden implement by your side. Though, after carefully considering Congress' behavior over the years, we're not sure they meant  ... well, we'll leave this one alone ... RED, WHITE AND BLUE WATERS: The 12th Annual Veteran's Day Boat Parade is Saturday, November 8th and travels from the Madeira Beach Causeway to the Treasure Island Causeway Bridge, beginning at, natch, 11am. A great place to see all of the decorated boats is from the TI Causeway at 11:30 and at Noon in John's Pass ... A TRADITION OLDER THAN DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ITSELF: Broiled fish. Yep, it's that time of year for the 78th Annual Gulf Beaches Elementary School Fish Broil, Saturday, November 8th, 2 to 8pm. Did you know years ago they used to cook the fish on a set of old bed springs? Today, of course, we know better and gently rock the fish to sleep on a very warm waterbed. Then we eat them. There's a carnival and auction, too - it's great fun and attracts thousands every year. Follow your nose to 8600 Boca Ciega Drive, St. Pete Beach (across from St, John's Church) ...
DROP THAT HOE AND PAY ATTENTION: Set your trash out one day later for the Veteran's Day holiday . Your Tuesday, November 11th trash day becomes Wednesday, November 12th ... Next Newsletter: November 13rh
