Resplendent with color, the gauds of ornamental trinketry glow in the pellucid Florida winter air, illuminated crimson by ... Yow! Brake lights! Whydidthatdriverjuststopinthemiddleoftheroadfornoreason?! Yes, 'tis the season for our colorful out-of-state license plate invasion (although that Ontario tag could use a splash of color). Drive well, our winter vistors, or as Tiger Woods might say, " He who drives well in fairway does not always fare well in driveway." Putting the "TI" in "tinsel" was our annual Holiday Lighted Boat Parade, a guaranteed driveway clogger at waterfront homes with boat parade parties. Our floating ornamental trinketry sailed from the TI Yacht & Tennis Club last Monday the 14th (postponed a day due to sea fog - you could really see fog) and you can watch the parade on You Tube here .

Stroll with the roly-poly guy in the red suit
Merrymakers stroll through the streets of Sunset Beach, caroling and sharing holiday cheer at neighbor's "merriment stops" along the way at the 3rd annual Holiday Stroll, Sunday, December 20th. (We'd like to go record right now as being in favor of year-round merriment stops.) Decorate your pets, yourself, bicycles, scooters, those beer coolers on wheels, that neighbor who hates your cats and join the stroll starting at 4pm at the Sunset Beach Pavilion. You can find a map of the stroll here in the Sunset Beach Civic Association December newsletter.

Boxing Day trash pickup
We always thought Boxing Day was the day after Christmas when you put all those cardboard boxes out by the curb for the trash man to pick up. Whoa! We've learned otherwise (it's a tradition of giving seasonal gifts, in the form of a "Christmas box" to less wealthy people, celebrated in the UK, Australia, Canada and a few other places, according to wikipedia) but we weren't that far off the mark. On Saturday, December 26th you can indeed put your boxes and trash out for collection (no pickup on Friday the 25th). Same goes for Friday, January 1st trash pickup - it gets bumped to Saturday the 2nd.

Beach Graffiti

NO MORE SITTING PRETTY: The fellow renting beach chairs and umbrellas on Sunset Beach,  Brian Cocozza, has discontinued his rentals. A handful of Sunset Beach residents complained about his concession service at a recent commission workshop. Mr. Cocozza said he did not feel that he could fight this battle ... PEOPLE ENJOY A CHARTER REVIEW: Pure government wonkery is in store for you as a member of the upcoming Charter Review Committee. Meetings to revise the "constitution" of the city will start next year. Like to volunteer? Apply here ... PARKING PASSES: 2010 resident parking passes go on sale Monday, December 28th at TI City Hall ... WERE DOOR LOCKS AN OPTION? Several cars on Isle of Palms no longer have GPS, iPods, laptops or expensive sunglasses. Unlocked cars provided an easy target for auto burglars three weeks ago ... ENJOY THE SUPREMES: Rarely does one get the opportunity to use "Antonin Scalia" and "Spring Break Partiers" in the same sentence, but there it is in the transcript. This month, the Supreme Court heard Stop the Renourishment vs. Florida, a case that could determine who owns the sand pumped up on a beach. Sunset and Sunshine Beaches are scheduled for more sand in May and June of 2010 ... MORE SANDING OVATIONS: We've set the date - November 15-21, 2010 for our 2nd annual Sand Sculpture Competition and Music Festival. Take a look at this year's sculpture winners here ... Next e*ti: Sometime before 2010.
