It was typical Spring Break behavior - buying
Chryslers at the breakneck volume we’ve been buying them for
years, filling the trunk with ice
and roaring off to wherever "it" was happening. (What kind of
Chrysler land yacht makes the best beer cooler? We say a
rented Chrysler.) But we
come back from our party break and find everyone
Twittering about pig flu! So wash your hands before dialing the
Swine Flu Information
Line from the Florida Department of Health
that provides information on avoiding the flu, symptoms,
how the disease is spread, and what the DOH is doing to protect
visitors and residents. The toll-free number is
1-800-775-8039.
Lane closures on the
causeway
You may have to maneuver your land
yacht into a single lane next Monday and Tuesday (5/4 and
5/5) when two more new traffic signal mastarms are installed at
Paradise Lane and the westbound lanes of the TI Causeway. The lane
closure is temporary and there may be a minor delay, says Public
Works Director Jim Murphy. It will be another month before the new
signals are fully programmed and ready to light
up.

Treasure Island's Memorial
Weekend FREE beach concert is Saturday, May 23rd, on the beach
behind the Bilmar from noon to 11pm. We've got nine bands - yes,
NINE, from rock to country to blues to funk to reggae - plus a
kids playground, food and drink, arts and crafts and a dazzling
fireworks show at 11pm. If you don't feel like filling your Chrysler
with ice and dragging it to Bands on
the Sand, why not book a table for six in Ricky T's
Sandbox? $200 gets you six prime concert seats (far enough
away from the speakers so you can yak all you want) beer, wine,
water and a whole party tray of BBQ pulled pork sliders,
brie and bread, munchies and tart apples with caramel. And, in what
surely is a first in modern concert-going trends, a "Sandboxers
Only" Port-o-Let! Imagine your relief! Reserve your spot in the
Sandbox - they're going fast - by calling 727-547-4575 ext. 237. Or,
you can get a reservation form here.

BOOM! OOOH! AHHH! Yew betcha, we
got fireworks on the beach - four times! Harry
Black of the Island Inn led a TI

week and netted $29, 250 in donations for fireworks this
year. So, in addition to fireworks at Bands on the Sand
on the 23rd of May, there will be fireworks on
the beach the 4th of July, at the Labor Day Bands on the
Sand and New Year's Eve! Thanks to all of
the sponsors and a special shout-out to the
Edwards Family Foundation ...
