This
time of year, most locals are appreciative,
excited and aware.
- Appreciative of not-too-hot weather,
not too-smokey wildfire breezes and not-too-crowded roads;
- Excited about the upcoming Sun,
Sand & Swing Beach Jam on Saturday, May 24th;
- Aware that their trash day is one day later because
of Memorial Day May 26. If your trash day normally falls
on Monday, May 26, it shifts to Tuesday, May 27. If trash day
normally is Tuesday, May 27, it will be Wednesday, May 28.
- Worth noting: holiday
trash day schedule changes can make some locals appreciative,
excited and aware, all at the same time. And now, the
news ...

There's all this
stuff in your garage ... Cans of leftover
"what-were-we-thinking-when-we-painted
the-kitchen-this-horrible-color" paint, that printer that
never worked right, a bunch of flourescent bulbs ... bring it all to
the Household
Chemical & Used Electronics Collection Center this Saturday,
May 17th at the TI Community Center from 9am to
2pm.
Camping it up this
summer When the kids are out of school for the summer, we all
agree they need to be somewhere. That somewhere is the TI
Rec Department's Summer Camp beginning June 8th. This year,
we've added the Nickelodeon-esque "Mad Science" to our assortment of
field trips, sports, games and activities that make TI's Summer Camp
the leader in summer fun for kids.

Treasure Island cleans up
well Nearly 30 volunteers
stood side by side for three hours at the Saturday morning
cleanup on Elnor Island, picking up and passing debris to waiting
barges and boats for proper disposal. The mayor, city commission and
the Beach Stewardship Committee are firmly grounded in where the
real treasures of Treasure Island are. One by one they emerged from
the thick John's Pass mangrove island carrying armfuls of lumber and
debris.
Worth noting: Mayor
Mary Maloof, mostly covered in mud, casually poked her head out of
the mangroves momentarily for a water break.
Other locals like Bob
Dowling and volunteers from Nature Matters.org handily loaded
countless bags and boards onto a boat. Nearly three tons of marine
debris was hauled off the island. Thanks to The Rice's for their
help in disposing all the junk from the island.
- To
volunteer for the next Elnor Island Cleanups on June 28 and July
26, call Dennis Velasco at
727-360-1901.
Lights Out for sea
turtles! Beachfront property owners are reminded it’s time
for “Lights
Out for Sea Turtles." Treasure Island has an ordinance prohibiting lighting that
casts glare onto the beach. During turtle nesting season, May 1 to
November 1, be environmentally responsible and turn the “Lights Out”
after 9pm. To report a sea turtle nest call
727-441-1790 ext.
224.
