We like the simple answers, so here we go: the answer is "yes."  Yes, there are fireworks on Treasure Island July 4th. An answer plain, direct, and economical of both word and phrase. When? Again, the simplicity: 9pm. Sit almost anywhere on our beach (you'll get a sandy bottom) and you'll have a great view of the fireworks launched from the barge near John's Pass. We say sit "almost anywhere" because there are some roped-off areas for our beach-nesting birds. Please: Let them "Nest in Peace" (again, more simplicity). Disturbing the birds and nests, says Alison Ormsby of Eckerd College, threatens the survival of the young black skimmers and least terns. Imagine sitting on some eggs, in the middle of summer, on the hot beach, for weeks on end. Would you want to be disturbed? Simple answer: no.

Roll out your trash a day early next week

Independence Day lands on a Friday this year.

If your trash day is normally Friday, next week your trash day is Thursday, July 3rd.

Safe to say, if your trash day is normally Thursday, then next week trash day is Wednesday, July 2nd. No change in recycling pickups.

Treasure Island a stop on Highway 18
This summer, slow play is not an option as 5 teams race for clues, special challenges and a new golf course each week on "Highway 18," the new reality golf competition show on the Golf Channel. Producers of "Highway 18" filmed a segment on Treasure Island back in April, complete with "Bucky" the Giant TI Pirate towering over golfers, the video crew, beach-goers and the merely curious. Treasure Island, we're told, is in episode six. "Highway 18" debuts July 22nd at 10pm on The Golf Channel.
