TI NEWS CLIPS | TI COMMISSION MEETING 9/9/09 | TI WEATHER NOW

August 21, 2009
THE FINE PRINT: Published online since 2005 by the City of Treasure Island Public Information Office for exactly 1247 relaxed and tanned online subscribers. For more sublime reading pleasure, back issues available here.

Our first three seasonal visitors, Ana, Bill and Claudette, took one look around, stuck their toes in our Treasure Island bath water and immediately went elsewhere. Bill is heading north, so lotta rain, lotta whoosh-whoosh wind, lot less beach, lot more broken tree limbs, and a bonanza for the battery-sellers and liquor stores in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Next three potential Treasure Island visitors: Danny, Erika and Fred. (Storm name "Glenn Beck" was dropped from the 2009 list for fear the storm would recklessly spin backwards and bury the country with half-literate nonsense and ignorant drivel). Click the clicky here for our 5-step program on our 2009 Hurricane Preparedness page. Be ready ... be very storm-ready ... we're coming into peak season.

Outstanding in their field
Our Treasure Island Hospitality Golf League, led by our ever-hospitable Golf Pro Gary Metzger (in the middle, fondling A Big Check with Cathy Hayduke and Kathy Scott), played lots of golf this season and raised two grand for the Children's Dream Fund. The teams are made up of all-around good guys and gals from our local restaurants and hotels, some who make a living on tips (18%, anyone?) and still find the time to give something back. (Some even have names identical to 2009 storm names). Cathy is the TI Parks and Recreation Director; the other Kathy (with a K) is the Donor Relations/Kids Who Care Coordinator for the Children's Dream Fund. Don't have a golf team in the league? Call Cathy (with a C) at 727-547-4575 ext. 237 for details.

CAN-DO: The last thing you need is a garbage can of moist trash steaming
quietly in your driveway beneath the torrid Florida sun. Which brings us to Holiday Trash Collections for the Labor Day Holiday! If your trash day is on Monday, September 7th, your trash will be picked up on Tuesday, September 8th. If your trash day is Tuesday, September 8th, your trash will be picked up Wednesday, September 9th ... SEWERS THAT QUALIFY FOR AARP: Treasure Island’s aging sewer system, showing its 50+ years of service with cracks and groundwater leaks, gets a high-tech retrofitting in the next few weeks that will seal up the leaks. That's the good news. The even better news is the
project is done without digging trenches and disrupting traffic. About 5900 feet of sewer pipe on the Isle of Palms, Paradise Island and Sunset Beach is scheduled for relining, beginning the week of August 24th ... SO WHEN IS ...? Answering some inquiries from our big e*ti e-mail bag, the TI Chamber of Commerce Beach Blast Family Fun Day is Saturday, September 5th ... The Treasure Island Holiday Boat Parade is Sunday, December 13th ... The annual Gator Club Football Kickoff Party is Saturday, August 29th at Gator's ... The 28th Annual John's Pass Seafood Festival is October 24th and 25th ... The next e*ti newsletter is September 3rd.
