Treasure Island’s “Green Day” offers eclectic mix of music, art and technology
A green space as big and beautiful as Treasure Island’s Community Center Park gets better on Saturday, March 15th with Green Day on the Grass, an eclectic mix of afternoon events under the warm springtime Florida sun. At Green Day on the Grass, you can listen to jazz guitarist Josh Gibson and sample a variety of cheeses and wine, then take in the Ikebana Show, the art of Japanese flower arrangement, at the community center. There are free trees marking Arbor Day in Treasure Island from the Beautification Committee, an opportunity to be on Treasure Island’s TITV615 and a dedication ceremony for the newest addition to the park, the Historical Causeway Bridge Monument. The Treasure Island Art Guild, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, has artists at Green Day on the Grass to “paint Treasure Island.” Their talented artists fan out across the city and return with artwork created in just a few hours. Their displayed works will show up in the Treasure Island city calendar next year. Citi Wifi, Treasure Island’s wireless internet provider, flips on the “free” switch for free wireless service all day at Green Day on the Grass. Bring your laptop or watch a demonstration on how fast and easy wireless internet service in your home can be. If you wish to begin curbside recycling service at your home, you can sign up for a recycling bin from TI Public Works at Green Day on the Grass. The Treasure Island Historical Society Pirates roam the park with free eco-info, too. The Treasure Island Community Center Park is in the heart of downtown Treasure Island at 1 Park Place & 106th Avenue (behind the Gulf Boulevard Walgreen’s). Free parking at the community center.
