Numbers abound during these long
summer months, beginning with those back-to-back 31-day Caesarsian
monster months of Julius and Augustus. And the numbers continue to
cascade like moisture rivulets on a cold glass. Not just
any numbers, either - we're talking meaningful
numbers:

Island Police Department detectives are investigating a Grand
Theft occurring on July 1, 2008 at 5pm just south of the 9000
block of West Gulf Boulevard. Witnesses report seeing a man remove a
9.8 Tohatsu 2-cycle black boat motor from a 25-foot sailboat that
was beached.
The suspect removed the boat motor and pretended to
be the boat owners friend. Once confronted, he ran south on the
beach with the motor.
Witnesses describe the suspect as a white
male, 18-22 years old, black shoulder length hair, 5'7" to 5'8" tall, medium build.

Can you dig
it?
Volunteers are planting
protective sea oats along a stretch of Treasure Island beach on
Saturday, August 9th beginning at 8:30am. Volunteers need to bring a
shovel and meet on the beach by the Island Inn, 9980 Gulf Boulevard.
The 12,000 seedlings (12,000! - it's those summer numbers again) are
provided free of charge by the Pinellas County Coastal
Coordinator.

Enjoy safe boating: The
renovated boat ramps at 123rd and 100th Avenues are temporarily open again,
which reminds us of the time a few years back when our
friend Jimmy called to say his van had accidentally slid
into the water while launching his boat. "How high is
the water?" we asked. "Oh, about van high," he replied.
The boat ramp at 84th Avenue is closed for few weeks for
renovations (Jimmy had nothing to do with this) ...

closed: Just one day, Tuesday, August 5th,
for the installation of the Pinellas County Automated
System ...
