During this Holiday Season, the Treasure Island Police Department would like to remind our residents and visitors regarding crimes perpetrated through internet sales. Internet sales and purchases are becoming increasingly more popular especially through “for sale by owner” websites like Facebook Marketplace, LoopNet, Craigslist and E-Bay. Buyers and sellers should never give out their personal home address and should always meet during daylight hours in a public location. The Treasure Island Police Department provides a safe area for our residents and visitors to safely conduct such transactions. Since the exterior of our building is monitored with video cameras, we are using existing technology to create a public space for your safety. We have installed a sign titled “Internet Purchase Exchange Location” on the parking space adjacent to the Police Department lobby door. We encourage our residents and visitors to use this new space. Remember…people with criminal intentions are unlikely to meet you at the police department!
