The only FREE blues festival in Pinellas County is the TI Blues Bash on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Treasure Island's Community Center Park. This year, the TI Blues Bash boasts over 10 hours of hot, smokin’ blues, soul and swing from six bands. Beautiful Bobby Blackmon, a polished Texas guitarist with crisp, fluid playing, emotional honesty and taste, headlines.
The festival begins at 11am with two sets from everybody’s favorite swing and jazz band, the 18-piece Tomkats Jazz Orchestra, who have been packing houses up and down the coast for close to thirty years. Next up are fan favorites wherever they play, Florida blues and Americana icon T.C. Carr and Bolts of Blue, featuring the amazing Josh Nelms on guitar. T.C. and the band take the stage at 1:30. Sarasota Slim brings his raucous blues-slinging band on at 3:15 for a set that always begins onstage and ends up somewhere out in the crowd, and Doug Deming and the Jeweltones follow at 5pm, cooking up a wicked blend of traditional blues, West Coast and Texas swing, early rock, country and roots music. As the bash heads toward sunset, the master of the Hammond B3 and most soulful vocalist this side of the Mississippi, Shawn Brown, takes the stage at 6:45. Beautiful Bobby Blackmon headlines the TI Blues Bash stage at 8:30pm with southern soul and blues, seasoned with delicious R&B flavors, with the chops of a major player in the modern blues-soul pantheon.
Festival vendors are open all day and evening, along with the food court, from 11am to 10pm. You can park all day, for $10, at lots in the Community Center Park at 104th & Gulf, at the Allied Building at 105th & Gulf, and in the lot across from Rally at 108th & Gulf. No tents, please.
