Treasure Island Police Department - About Us

The Treasure Island Police Department is a progressive and professional agency serving a pleasant beach community in Pinellas County, Florida, just west of St. Petersburg. There are presently 20 sworn officers plus communications and support sections. We are a small city of about 7,500 full time residents. The population grows to about 20,000 in tourist season. While the city is small and located on a gulf coast barrier island, we are part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg metropolitan area.
The Treasure Island Police Department exists to protect the rights, safety and property of people in Treasure Island. Police responsibilities include enforcing local, state and federal laws; maintaining peace and order; and assisting
people in unusually pressing situations that could lead to personal injury or damage to property. Treasure Island officers who are state certified as crime prevention practitioners also provide home security surveys on request.
The department protects the city with regular patrols, through the special service patrols and by directed patrols which are specific assignments to areas needing special attention at any one time. In consideration of our 3.5 mile beach front, we have converted our patrol fleet to 4-wheel drive vehicles allowing our officers to patrol or respond to any section of the beach as needed.
Community policing is a way of life here. Treasure Island enjoys the benefits of having its own police department. These benefits include a direct personal familiarity between department personnel and residents; a professional familiarity with city associations, clubs and the personality of the community; and a high quality and closeness of service stemming from the department's local presence and management.
