UPDATE
Classification: Trespassing
Case #: 2903197
Date of Incident: March 4, 2009
Offense Location:
8478 W. Gulf Blvd.
Over the past few weeks, the Treasure Island Police Department has conducted saturation patrols of the Sunset Beach area after a string of burglaries and thefts.  An e-alert was sent out in January, asking residents to report suspicious activity.

On Wednesday March 4, 2009, the Treasure Island Police Department responded to a report of trespassers at a vacant property on Sunset Beach.  Five (5) juveniles, reported as missing from Pasco County, were located inside the residence.  The juveniles, three females and two males, ranged in age from 12 to 15 years old.  The juveniles were all charged with criminal trespass and later transported to the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center (PJAC).

As a result of these arrests, investigators were able to link these juveniles to other crimes in the city. A 15 year old male juvenile was also charged with Auto Burglary and Grand Theft for an incident on February 23, 2009, in Treasure Island.  In addition, the 15 year old juvenile male and one other juvenile were charged with criminal mischief for an incident on February 13, 2009 on Sunset Beach where suspects damaged lawn furniture and defecated on the property, causing damage in excess of $1,000.00.

A 12 year old female was also charged with providing a false name to police officers and violation of home detention (Felony).

At the time of these arrests, Treasure Island Police Officers recovered (apparent) stolen alcohol and food products which are believed to have been stolen from residential properties, possibly in the Sunset Beach area.   It appears that this group of runaway juveniles has been frequenting the Treasure Island area since at least December, 2008.  Investigators have linked them to a burglary in December where surfboards were stolen.  Accordingly, Treasure Island Investigators are asking residents who have discovered similar items taken from their property to contact the police department.  The investigation continues and additional charges are pending.

The Treasure Island Police Department would like to thank the community for their continued support and efforts in reporting suspicious incidents.  Please contact the Treasure Island Police Department at 727-547-4595.
