Attempted Sexual
Battery
Wednesday, February 2, 2011
On Tuesday,
February 1, 2011, at approximately 8:30 PM, a 22 year old
female was walking northbound on the Treasure Island Beach in
the 11400 block. As the victim was
walking, a male walked up to her and asked her for a
cigarette. The victim sensed that something was wrong
and began to walk away. The male then followed her for a
short distance, communicated with her and ripped her skirt.
The suspect then pushed the victim down to the ground
and a struggle ensued. The victim feared that a sexual
battery was imminent. The victim screamed and was able to
defend herself by kicking the suspect. The suspect then stood
up and ran from the scene. As the victim was
dialing 911, officers spotted the male running away.
Officers stopped and detained the suspect while a criminal
investigation began. As a result, the suspect was
arrested and charged with Attempted Sexual Battery.
Peters was armed with two pocket knives; however, the knives
were not used in the commission of the crime. The
suspect has been identified as 34 year old Jamie Duane
Peters. Peters, who is originally from West Branch,
Michigan, is a transient long haul trucker. Peters had
been working in the Fort Myers area for the past month.
Investigators do not know why Peters was in Treasure Island
last night. Peters was transported to the
Pinellas County Jail and is being held on $10,000.00
bond. |
