Be on the lookout - More Stolen Surfboards
Monday, August 15, 2011
Treasure Island Police Department is investigating the theft of a surf board from the 7700 block of the Treasure Island Beach. The theft occurred on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at approximately 3:05 pm.
A 34 year old St. Petersburg resident had his surf board stolen while he was attempting to save two stranded kite boarders who appeared in distress. The victim observed the swimmers in distress and decided to paddle out on a surf board. He stated that his surf board was not of sufficient size to complete a water rescue. He set his own board down in the sand and noticed two pre-teen boys in the area.
The complainant asked one of the boys if he could use their larger board to assist the stranded swimmers. When the complainant returned to shore several minutes later, his board and the boys were gone. The victim’s surf board is a white, 5’8” Erie “E” surf board. The victim has also asked for privacy and, accordingly, his name will not be released.
The Treasure Island Police Department is asking for the publics’ assistance in identifying the suspects who were responsible for taking the victim’s surf board. The suspects left behind a blue and white stand-up paddle board. If you have any information regarding the owner(s) of the surf board pictured below and/or the suspects who stole the victim’s Erie “E” surf board, please contact Officer Steve Timlin at 727-547-4595.
