About TIPD ...
The Treasure Island Police Department was established in 1955. Service to this community is not just our goal, but our sole purpose to exist. Today, our attention, our focus, and our operating policies and procedures are the product of over 50 years experience in providing law enforcement services to those who call Treasure Island home. As our community has evolved, we have changed to meet those needs. We are proud that we have maintained staff and equipment levels always commensurate to our community’s need. We are progressive, yet realistic.
Your police department provides a 24-hour police communication center. When you call for service, whether it be routine or an emergency, you are speaking with a communications professional in Treasure Island. Recognizing the unique challenge of providing police presence on 3.5 miles of beach terrain, we have converted our patrol fleet to all four-wheel drive vehicles. First and foremost this allows every officer on duty to patrol our beach front and secondly, it increases officer safety in that every on-duty officer can reach any point on the beach when needed.
We deploy all-terrain vehicles for special events on the beach and to supplement patrol activity during heavy beach congestion. We patrol our inter-coastal and gulf waters with a twin engine vessel uniquely equipped to work in harmony with Treasure Island paramedics for accidental or medical emergencies at sea.
In conjunction with fundamental law enforcement services Treasure Island maintains a police canine, a detective division, a property/evidence section and provides residential and commercial crime prevention services. We are committed and prepared to serve our 7,500 permanent residents as well as the 12,000 residents who join our community during seasonal periods.
