In order to modernize waste collection to the residents of Treasure Island and reduce employee injuries, the city introduced a fully automated refuse collection service. The first phase of this program began on August 29th, 2006 on Paradise Island (including Paradise Lane). The next phase included Isle of Palms and Isle of Capri and started on July 16, 2007. Each single family home received one 90-gallon roll-out cart at no charge. When placed at the curb for collection, a truck equipped with a specially designed mechanical arm will allow the operator to lift the roll-out cart off the street, empty it into the truck, and return the cart to its original position. Our current method of collecting garbage exposes the homeowner and the garbage men to many hazards from heavy or worn out garbage cans. Often times, dogs, cats or the wind scatter garbage placed at the curb. This creates an eyesore and health hazard.

A police report is required to replace a stolen or vandalized roll-out cart at no charge. The TIPD number is 547-4595. A roll-out cart replaced due to customer negligence will be at the customer’s expense.
