"A Rockin’ Red Glare,” Treasure Island’s three-day Independence Day festival, opens at 4pm Saturday, July 2, 2011 with some summertime blues from the Single Malt Brothers Band, bringing blues, southern rock and smoking country to the beach, followed at 7pm by the bay’s leading blueslinger Sarasota Slim.

Caribbean Cowboy breezes to the beach with tropical rhythms beginning at 3pm on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Then, America’s #1 Elton John tribute band, The Rocket Man Show starring Rus Anderson as Elton John, brings Sir Elton's music alive before your eyes with costume changes and an unparalleled rhythm section. The Rocket Man Show starts at 6:30pm. Come early, as the beach will fill fast for this show.

After the show, relax on your beach chair or blanket with Seaside Cinema, a free movie on the beach at 9pm, showing the PG-rated ”How to Train Your Dragon,” a soaring movie of dazzling animation with surprising dramatic depth, and thrilling 3-D sequences.

Get ready for an all day party on Monday, July 4, 2011 beginning at 1pm with surf rockers The Tridents. Kick up some beach sand with ska, reggae and tropical rock from Tropical Disturbance at 4pm, and get out your red, white and blues with the Rebel Pride Band at 7pm, Tampa Bay’s down–home American rock ‘n’ roll best.

The kids will be all excited when they see “The Hippo,” the world’s largest inflatable water slide, at 175 feet long and nearly 40 feet high, on the beach at “A Rockin’ Red Glare.” “The Hippo” is open from 10am to dusk. No restrictions on age, height, or weight for kids, and an adult is allowed to waterslide with a child at no additional charge.

While the kids play, shop at the arts and crafts mall, featuring glass and metal jewelry, glow novelties, tie-dyed outfits, wind chimes, and yard art from nearly 40 local crafters. The food court is open all three days, too, with all kinds of tasty beach picnic foods, fruit bowls, candies, and cold treats.

All “A Rockin’ Red Glare” shows are free and on the Treasure Island beach at 104 th and Gulf Boulevard, behind the Bilmar Beach Resort. Beach parking is $10 per day; parking entrance at 112th Avenue & Gulf Boulevard. Additional parking on July 4th only at the Treasure Island Community Center lawn for $5, and in the Community Center lot for $4. The Treasure Island Community Center is located at 106 th Avenue & Gulf Boulevard, behind Walgreen’s. Info: 727-547-4575 ext. 237.
