Drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1-4 in Florida, the highest in the nation. To put that in perspective, enough children drown in Florida each year to fill three to four preschool classrooms. These statistics are not to scare you, but to help warn parents about the importance of keeping children safe around water.
To help, Treasure Island Fire Rescue is teaming up with Safe Kids Worldwide, Inc. to give out free life jackets to children and their parents in our community. The Life Jacket Giveaway and Touch-A-Truck will take place July 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Caddy’s Treasure Island, 9000 W. Gulf Blvd.
During this event, not only will free life jackets be given out while supplies last, but kids and parents will be able to learn and gather information about water safety and the importance of life jackets. There will also be a touch-a-truck event taking place with Treasure Island Fire Rescue personnel.
Thank you to Pinellas County EMS for providing TIFR with the life jackets to giveaway.
