ABOUT THE CHIEF
Chief John Barkley started with the Treasure Island Police Department in March of 2020. Prior to joining the Treasure Island Police Department, Chief Barkley started his law enforcement career with the Naples Police Department in January of 1990. He spent 30 years in Naples working in a variety of positions including road patrol, detective unit and community policing. As he climbed the ranks at Naples PD, he supervised many different units including criminal investigations, professional standards and both the operations bureau and the administration bureau. He was a long-standing member of the department’s Honor Guard and SWAT teams, retiring as the SWAT team commander.
Chief Barkley holds an A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Edison State College, a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Public Safety Administration from Edison State College where he graduated summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Miami where he earned membership in the Pi Alpha Alpha honor society. He is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Chief Barkley has over two thousand hours of law enforcement training and has held instructor certifications in several high-liability areas.
He is an active member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI National Academy Associates.
